The Colorado WCTU was organized in 1880 when there were only three active unions located in Greeley, Evans, and Longmont. It was active in social, economic and legal reform, most notably in woman's suffrage, prison reform, the Cottage Home for unwed mothers, day nurseries, eight-hour work laws and the adoption of prohibition in 1914. Temperance organization founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874. Campaigning against the use of alcohol and in favor of labor laws and prison reform, the W.C.T.U. became one of the largest and most influential women's organizations of the 19th century. It became global when the World W.C.T.U. was founded in 1883.
